Best Low Cost Food Dehydrators
Entry level price dehydrators: Nesco is a favorite brand name for many Americans. If you are just starting to dip your foot into the dehydrator waters, you might prefer to spend just a little bit of money to start off with.
Nesco American Harvest FD-37 400 Watt Food Dehydrator is pictured here to the left. As you can see, it is smaller that the rectangle models, and this can make it a little more cumbersome to use.
Now keep in mind that you get what you pay for, and while this dehydrator will do what it is made for, it has many customers saying that the fan is very loud.
There is also a complaint that the inner parts of the trays started to melt with the heat. :-0
The Nesco Positives:
- Nesco dehydrators are fast, your produce will be ready in hours.
- You don’t have to rotate the trays (like most good dehydrators) for even drying as this dehydrator has a radial air fan.
- It has clear tray so you can see exactly what is happening inside easily.
The Nesco Negatives:
- This machine only has 4 trays, so that may not be enough if you are bulk buying produce to dehydrate and store.
- The temperature is fixed – you cannot change it – a definite downside.
- Most customers believe that it would be better to spend just a little more to buy a better model dehydrator.
Pictured below is another Nesco dehydrator model that only costs just a little bit more, but is much more robust.
Nesco FD-39 500-Watt Food Dehydrator
My personal preference is the larger, rectangle shaped dehydrators. I find they fit a lot more and are much easier to place the food into.
Also, only having four trays would be a definite draw-back for me. I think if you are going to fire up any appliance – then you should make the very best use of the power it will be consuming – and more trays help a lot with that.
Although this particular Nesco Dehydrator is a very popular seller.
Below is a video from Nesco that shows you the Nesco 500 watt dehydrator in-depth.
